The Organic Process of Hair Loss

Many people when considering the process of hair loss might be under the impression that hair loss is something caused either directly or indirectly by synthetic or man made chemicals or devices. That somehow it is through constant mistreatment of the hair and neglect as to why they may be experiencing hair loss.

This could not be further from the truth, on the contrary, while some synthetic means are a partial cause of hair loss, it is primarily an organic process. In other words loosing your hair is perfectly natural and in essence a part of life. However, with that said it does not mean there are not ways of slowing down this process, controlling it and hopefully ultimately preventing it.

Let us examine in detail the organic process that is hair loss. One article in particular seems to sum this up well. According to the DHT and hair loss process from onlyhairloss.com, they say that the three main organic causes and or theories to why we lose our hair is attributed to 1. progression in age, 2. Heredity 3. The prevalence of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) within the hair follicle.

Lets quickly examine these, we all progress in age, this is a natural part of life and therefore an organic process we cannot stop. Secondly heredity and genetics are intertwined into our very DNA and chromosomal matrix, this cannot be reversed, it is simply how we were born therefore it is also organic. Lastly and probably he most controversial is the build up of DHT. Believe it or not DHT is  a naturally recurring hormonal phenomena.

DHT  assists with sexual development in males during fetal development and puberty. DHT which is produced in the prostate, various adrenal glands, and the scalp is produced from testosterone by two 5-alpha reductase isoenzymes, called Type I and Type II. Type I 5AR is much more prominent in the scalp than Type II. However, immunostaining techniques reveal that Type I is abundant in sebaceous glands, while significant Type II is present in the dermal papilla itself. DHT is the androgen thought to be most responsible for male pattern baldness. DHT has a very high affinity for the androgen receptor and is estimated to be five to ten times more potent than testosterone. (DHT and hair loss process)

In essence we need to understand that DHT at least from extensive research and experimentation continues to lead the pack as the number 1 killer of follicular substantiation or hair loss. We have to recognize that this is a organic process. but we should not accept this as fate and lie down to throw our hands in the hair in frustration. No there are many ways to combat DHT, such as through chemical solutions like Rogaine and Propecia and various methods of caring and preserving good hair growth. This is mentioned in many of our other articles.

Bottom line, to defeat any problem we must first understand the problem and how it works, to fully comprehend and execute the methods needed to solve them. This has been a brief introduction to the Organic process of hair loss, and is meant to simply shed light that hair loss is not simply a synthetic flaw brought on by human  neglect, but happens to all of us, both men and women and it is this recognition of a natural process that will help us understand how to properly combat the devastating and horrid effects of hair loss.

As always I would love to hear your feed back, tell us what you think of the article, can’t wait to hear from you.

Until next time,

Stress and Hair loss, is it really connected?

Each and every day we go out to a world filled with frustration and anxiety, Will I get that promotion? Did i remember to turn off the stove? How will I pay next months bill?  The lists go on and on.  Many might believe that this stress has preferably no impact whatsoever on the devastating and menacing effects of hair loss.

This however is not entirely true. in a recent study conducted by Daniel K. Hall-Flavin, M.D, he in fact found that, and to quote him “Yes, stress and hair loss can be related”.

Stress and Hair loss

According to his study there are three specific types of Hair loss

Alopecia areata is one such type. A variety of factors are thought to cause alopecia areata, possibly including severe stress. With alopecia areata, white blood cells attack the hair follicle, stopping hair growth and making hair fall out.

Telogen effluvium is another such factor. In this condition, emotional or physical stress pushes large numbers of growing hairs into a resting phase. Within a few months, the affected hairs may fall out suddenly when simply combing or washing your hair.

Trichotillomania is especially one you might not have heard of. It is an irresistible urge to pull out hair from your scalp, eyebrows or other areas of your body. Hair pulling can be a way of dealing with negative or uncomfortable feelings, such as stress, anxiety, tension, loneliness, fatigue or frustration.

Stress and hair loss don’t have to be permanent. If you get your stress under control, your hair may grow back. Be sure to talk to your doctor if you notice sudden or patchy hair loss or more than usual hair loss when combing or washing your hair. Sudden hair loss can signal an underlying medical condition that requires treatment. If needed, your doctor may suggest treatment options for the hair loss as well. And if efforts to manage your stress on your own don’t work, talk to your doctor about stress management techniques.

Bottom line don’t ignore the facts, stress and hair loss go hand in hand, ignore one at the peril of the other. Hair loss is a menace to us as women and we need to be enlightened and aware of what we can do to fight back. Knowledge is power and knowing how to manage your time and stress less essentially will help to prevent and slow the perilous effects of hair loss.

As usual we always love to hear your feedback tell us what you think and let us know how you feel on the issue of stress and hair loss. have you ever been in a very stressful situation? Do you tend to get stressed a lot at work or at home? These are the important questions to ask yourself and will ultimately tell you if you could be a victim of stress and hair loss.

Fact and Fiction of Summertime Hairloss

So we all know summertime is fast approaching and we want those sculpted bodies and nice beautiful curves to hit the beaches with. But what we don’t want is a potentially empty scalp. Its surprising even today with all the advancements of technology and information, how myths still persist and flourish in certain realms of the unknown. One such set of myths cover what does and does not cause hair loss during the summertime. These range from absurdities like wearing hats which cause detrimental hair loss, to some quasi true myths like standing on your head to fight hair loss.

So How do you know whats true from whats not, well a renown doctor was brought as someone who can clear that up quite easily.  Dr. Robert Leonard has more than 25 years of experience in cosmetic surgery, serving as New England’s foremost authority on hair restoration. He is the Hair Loss Expert for Johnson & Johnson, makers of Rogaine®, and is medically educated, trained and licensed to perform hair restoration procedures for men and women. He addresses quickly what he believes to be the top 10 summer myths of 2011.

These are the myths.

1. Myth: Wearing a baseball cap or hats will cause thinning hair and loss of hair.

Dr. Leonard’s truth serum: Hats off to this myth! No matter what your mother has told you, wearing a hat does not cause hair to thin or fall out.

2. Myth: Exposure to chlorine in swimming pools will cause hair loss.

Dr. Leonard’s truth serum: Another dive in the truth department…chlorinated water can affect the hair shafts by drying them out and making them more brittle, but does not cause hair to thin or fall out. Also, watch out for bleached hair—it has been known to turn green with exposure to chlorine!

3. Myth: Applying sunscreen to the scalp will cause hair to thin and fall out.

Dr. Leonard’s truth serum: No! If you have thinning hair, it is very important to use sunscreen on your scalp to prevent burn and worse. In fact, one of the first hints that a person is losing his or her hair is, indeed, sunburn.

4. Myth: Swimming in saltwater will cause hair to dry out and fall out.

Dr. Leonard’s truth serum: Keep surfing! No, any saltwater activity, including swimming, does not affect your hair loss. Genetics is the root cause (sorry) of 98 percent of hair loss.

5. Myth: Overexposure to sun and heat will cause hair to become brittle and fall out.

Dr. Leonard’s truth serum: No again. The main concern with overexposure to the sun is sunburn of the scalp—and it hurts a lot! Growing more hair, either with medical treatments or with modern hair transplantation, are great options to consider if your hair is thin enough to get burned.

6. Myth: Braiding your hair at an exotic beach stand will cause your hair to fall out.

Dr. Leonard’s Truth Serum: Short term braiding is fine; it is true, however, that certain hair styles, such as long term, tight corn-row braiding can permanently destroy follicles and cause hair loss. This is a preventable condition called traction alopecia.

7. Myth: Sexy summer activities cause less hair to fall out.

Dr. Leonard’s Truth Serum: Too bad about this one, huh?!? There is no truth to the idea that the more sex you have, the less hair you’ll lose. But the good doctor still thinks it’s worth trying to bust this myth!

8. Myth: Blow drying wet hair after a day at the pool or beach will cause hair to fall out.

Dr. Leonard’s Truth Serum: The truth is that there is no evidence that hair dryers cause thinning hair. However, too hot or too much drying may lead to brittle hair.

9. Myth: Smoking cigarettes causes hair loss.

Dr. Leonard’s Truth Serum: Let’s face it; cigarette smoking is medically

BAD for everything, including your hair. Recent studies have found sufficient evidence to claim there is a significant link between smoking and hair loss. It’s still uncertain whether the connection is due to the effects of tobacco toxins, but it is probably due to the fact that nicotine constricts blood vessel throughout the body, including those directly affecting individual hair follicles.

10. Myth: Standing on your head during summer workout sessions will help your hair to grow.

Dr. Leonard’s Truth Serum: Although increase in the microcirculation to the follicles does help to decrease hair loss (as is affected by low level laser therapy), standing on your head does makes blood flow to the head, but it has not been shown to be of any benefit with hair loss.

So there you have it 10 of the most popular myths out there for summertime hair loss,  Dr Leonard has officially set the record straight;  we at stophairlossforwomen.com believe in empowering women with the knowledge to fight back against this menacing problem.  So remember, don’t always believe what you hear, learn the truth, do some research, explore the possibilities, there is always an answer somewhere and together we can stand strong together and fight and ultimately prevent hair loss.

Breakthrough in Technology for Hair Loss

Each and every day the speed at which we are uncovering and discovering new technologies are astounding. By the time you have finished reading this sentence, they have already invented a smaller more efficient microchip to increase computer speed. It is no wonder with this kind of advancement, that they would have undoubtedly broken thorough in the realm of hair loss.

According to Spa I news they have recently uncovered a fantastic new device that can actually inform you of the quality grade of your hair. This is absolutely astounding. Read this small excerpt from Spa I news telling of this revolutionary product.

“In the past, doctors and hair loss professionals were unable to measure how much hairwas present on the heads of men and women seeking help for hair loss.  Because neither loss nor growth could be measured, doctors and hair loss specialists were unable to give their patients or clients a truly meaningful recommendation. Now, a new scientific instrument called HairCheck® can precisely measure the quantity of hair in any area of the scalp.  HairCheck® is the commercially-available version of the cross-section Trichometer, a research tool that has been used to measure hair re-growth in chemotherapy patients and by manufacturers to test the anti-breakage properties of hair conditioning agents.”

“HairCheck is the first technology outside of a research laboratory that has the ability to measure hair thinning, shedding, breakage and re-growth. Hair loss treatments are rarely considered until the underlying skin is visibly apparent. Yet by that time, as much as 50% of the hair in the affected area is already gone. HairCheck can detect that early thinning 10 to 15 years in advance and offer the opportunity for earlier treatment and more likely re-growth. CEO Mike Vidal notes, “We anticipate that the new HairCheck measurement device will become a standard service throughout the beauty industry as well as the medical profession.” For the first time, doctors can monitor exactly how well their hair loss patients are responding to prescriptions such as Rogaine or Propecia and new light-based treatments like laser or L.E.D.  Hair professionals in the salon & spa industry can monitor their clients’ responses to products and services for thinning hair and effectively evaluate those with breakage as well.”

Breakthrough in Technology for Hairloss

With this simple but powerful tool, doctors can now better analyze each women’s individual hair circumstance and make proper recommendations accordingly. Because every women’s hair is different and unique it would make sense that a device that could specifically and efficiently inform doctors of exactly what is going on with the health and overall status of the hair follicles would be an extremely effective and proficient means to helping fight the continued degeneration of hair loss.

We need to be aware of such inventions constantly, stay updated and search for new and improved technologies that can help us women in this epic struggle against hair loss and its degenerative nature.

For more information on this product please read the full article here

As always we would love to hear your feedback and thoughts on the Post. Do you think this invention is really as good as it says? Could you use an invention like this in your life and would it make the fight easier against your personal struggle against Hair Loss.

Hair Loss in Pregnancy

There are certain times in a woman’s life that seems particular;y hard and downright miserable. During a pregnancy is definitely one of these times. But one unbeknown factor that seems to plague women is hair loss during a pregnancy.

A pregnancy by nature is stressful, with a severe amount of hormonal pulses on a regular basis, it increases certain hormones like DHT that are known follicular killers. In essence during a pregnancy you create hormones that may kill hair and also lose essential vitamins, like Vitamin B, Vitamin C and Vitamin E, that nourishes your hair and in effect defends against hair loss.

Hair Loss after pregnancy

An article by the  stop thinning hair corporation has eluded to these effects with some detail and precision, they go over the points of how some women especially during a pregnancy is more susceptible to hair loss due to these impending factors.

Their solution is quite simple, be aware that this effect is increased during pregnancy, and fight back with supplements and nourishment that specifically increase Vitamin Reserves in regard to the prescribed vitamins that prevent hair loss.  A build up of some DHT is inevitable, stress leads to this irrevocably. But Ultimately it is every women responsibility to empower themselves and attempt to take control of their emotions and not let stress build to the point where DHT Levels would do more damage than necessary.

Hair loss is  on the rise and affects almost 60% of women in North America, we need to become aware of all that we can do to fight this debilitating and relentless problem.

All information and dissertation is rendered from the stop thinning hair corporation.

Hope to hear from you soon,

Damaging your own hair with “Hard Water”?

I found this article online, about a relatively simple hair care solution. It involves this substance known as hard water, and it could be that you are using this right now, without your knowledge.  Hard water specifically is water that is rich with certain vitamins and solutions that can help certain skin problems but is absolutely deadly to your hair. Containing chemical properties like magnesium, calcium and sodium, its the equivalent of applying invisible acid to your face.

You must check out this short but highly informative article on 5 simple ways to defend against Hard water.

The 5 ways described in the article include, using shampoo mixed with some ginger oil with sesame oil and  massage your head. After washing your hair apply mashed avocado and keep it for 15 minutes. Grind some carrot and mix it will olive oil. Put the jar with the carrot in refrigerator. After some time use the concoction to apply it to your hair. After 20 minutes mix one egg yolk, olive oil, honey and lime juice to make a hair pack. Wash your hair with amla, reetha and shikakai. and my personal favorite, which I definitely recommend to everyone who believes they might be a victim to Hard Water, is to go for a head massage with cider vinegar. This keeps the hair from getting dry and also brings back the lost shine.

With these 5 simple hair preventive solution’s, which is gone over in much more detail in the article from Suprana Chakrabotry, you will be much better off to defend aginst the potenitally harmful damage of Hard Water.

I would love to hear what you guys think about this. Do you believe you have suffered from hard water? Have you ever heard of hard water before this article? Will you follow any of these steps to ensure hard water does not affect you?

I would love to hear from you,

until next time,

Hair loss and Hair Restoration

The aspect of hair loss for women is an extremely frightening concept to come to terms with, although more than 40% of women in North America deal with hair loss,  surprisingly few actually know how to diagnose and ascertain with surety what type of hair loss and to what extent and level of seriousness they are plagued with.

The American Hair loss Association has released a very important article, that I believe will be of  great value to those of us suffering and combating hair loss.  I encourage everyone to take a look at the article and see for themselves just where they fit in on the spectrum and degree of hair loss, whether in the beginning to mild stages, or more latter and degradable stages.  The article in summary lists some of the different conditions that plague women regarding hair loss, such as Alopecia, Tellogen Effluvium, Annageum Effluvium and traction Alopecia. All of which impact women in different ways under different particular circumstances.

To quote the American Hair Loss Association “What all hair loss has in common, whether it’s in men or women, is that it is always a symptom of something else that’s gone wrong in your body.”

So we may take away from this that, no type of hair loss is to be treated as a non threat or casually. If you have hair loss something has gone wrong internally whether it be a deficiency or iron, a build up of DHT or, excessive stress, or ex-tenuous hair styles, whatever it may be, hair loss is hair loss, and it should be fought from the moment it is acknowledged as such.

I would love to hear what you guys think about this, we should continue to grow as a community and learn how to fight, prevent and cure the infamous and far reaching problem of hair loss.

Hair Loss Solutions

Hair loss, is an ever expanding, ever consuming topic that simply cannot be ignored in today’s society. More than 40% of North American women experience some adverse effects of hair loss, or extreme thinning of the hair. Its a subject taken very seriously by scientists and  hair transplant doctors and hair specialists alike.

This video examines some of the route causes of hair loss in both men and women, the primary emphasis is around this one specific hormone known as Dihydrotestosterone, or more commonly known as DHT.  DHT is secreted as a hormone and essentially attacks and eats away at the stability of the hair follicles and over time destroys them, causing hair loss.

The video goes over three main solution’s on stopping or slowing DHT. Those include the use of Rogaine, which is applied topically to the scalp and is very effective in strengthening hair follicles. Another is Propecia, which discourages the growth of DHT and promotes hair growth. Although a relatively new drug has made itself available on the market called Provillus, unlike propecia there are no adverse sexual side effects between the hormones. Also Minoxidil is used with Provillus to stimulate the capillaries , the oral supplement reinforces the topical application and blocks harmful DHT and strengthens hair growth. Provillus is strongly recommended for its efficiency and effectiveness against hair loss.

This video, will elaborate specifically on what has been said so far.

Hair loss is a very serious problem, and one that should not be taken lightly, if you are exhibiting the early signs of hair loss, now is the time to act, where there is a good chance to fight back and see results. I encourage everyone to seek out treatments and solutions such as Provillus to stop Hair loss in a timely and effective manner.

I would truly love to hear what you girls think about this; have you had anyone you know use any of these solution’s and see results? Please share and comment with us.

Until next time,

Stem Cell defect, a cause of common baldness

A new study has recently been released from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine Cotsarelis, stating that common baldness could have its roots in a newly identified stem cell defect, a finding that could potentially lead to new hair-loss treatments.

Take a look at this article as it explains in detail, what some are calling revolutionary in the hair loss world.

Their research indicates that that a cellular malfunction short-circuits the process by which hair follicle stem cells turn into hair-producing progenitor cells. That defect, rather than any loss of stem cells themselves, sparks the onset of androgenetic alopecia, the medical term for a type of genetic hair loss that affects both men and women.

In women this pattern is different from men. Women rarely hit complete baldness, but rather endures a gradual thinning of the hair line. Nevertheless, this study indicates a big break through in the respect of possible medical treatments that could in fact reverse such damage.

Scientifically, many scientists and doctors were under the impression that the entire stem cells were gone, but in fact they had not disappeared, but had gotten immensely smaller, even microscopic to be exact. But microscopic or not, the point is they are still there, and if that is the case, then there is a chance to regrow the hair from these same stem cells.

The article supports this:

“Previously we thought the stem cells were gone, and if that was the case it would be very difficult. But because they are present it should be possible to treat,”  (Dr. George Cotsarelis, chairman of the dermatology department at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine Cotsarelis.)
Although this breakthrough is a very large leap in the right direction, it is important to understand that all they have done here, is identify the problem, the job of actually curing or treating this will require more time.
Until then we can only try the methods that we have now and hope for a promising breakthrough for a cure sometime in the future.
So what do you girls think about this breakthrough?
do you think they will come up with something for this?
or is this one more piece of many more pieces to be found in the future?
We would love to hear your thoughts
until next time

Iron Deficiency can cause hair loss

Many women are unaware of the harmful effects of a low iron intake. Hair loss can be a very traumatic and challenging experience to say the least. Medical research has shed considerable light on the issue, but even now, the definite absolute causes of hair loss is unknown. However, studies have shown that Iron deficiency leads to telogen effluvium or the mass shedding of hair.

Iron Deficiency can cause Hairloss

What studies have found is that during the child bearing years of women, and heavy menstruation cycles, a significant amount of iron is depleted from the human body, anywhere from   25% – 40 %.

With less iron in the blood stream, it seems to lead to an increase in the  telogen effluvium effect within women. Iron’s main purpose is to carry hemoglobin and myoglobin within the blood stream, pumping both oxygen and a type of enriched oxygen to the muscles within the body.

The Hair Centre have published an extensive article on this phenomenon, and explain with detail how a constant supply of Iron intake is necessary to replenish the body and prevent hair loss, they also explain what foods inhibit iron intake within the body, and also touch on the fact that too much iron can actually cause hair loss or even be toxic to the human frame.  Read here for more…

With Hair Loss for women ranking as one of the more prevalent and common problems facing most women, it is difficult to prescribe any one sure solution. But what we have found out, is that Iron deficiency is most definitely a possible cause of hair loss, and more importantly one that we can do something about.
